It indicates that the issue may be related to old signatures saved in Gmail, browser cache, or some previous state of the Gmail editor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When this problem can occur<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This error may appear when the user:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>is using email <strong>aliases<\/strong> in Gmail;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>has multiple signatures registered;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>switches the signature manually within the compose window;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>has had other old signatures saved in Gmail;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>has old Gmail data loaded in the browser.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Video example<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the video below, we show an example of switching signatures between aliases without error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"720\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1280 \/ 720;\" width=\"1280\" controls src=\"https:\/\/www.bybrand.io\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Gmail_characters_no_error.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this example, Gmail correctly alternates between aliases and applies the corresponding signature without displaying residual HTML characters.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Possible solutions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We recommend following the steps below in order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Test in an incognito window<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before clearing anything, perform a quick test in an incognito browser window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How to test:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open an <strong>incognito window<\/strong> in the browser.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access Gmail.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Log in to the account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Compose<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Switch the <strong>From<\/strong> field between aliases.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check if the signature changes normally and if the HTML characters disappear.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What this test indicates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>If it works in incognito:<\/strong> the problem is likely in <strong>cache<\/strong>, <strong>cookies<\/strong>, or some browser extension.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>If the issue continues:<\/strong> there may be <strong>old signatures saved in Gmail<\/strong> or some account state that needs to be cleared.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Clear browser cache<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the incognito window test works, the next step is to clear browser data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How to clear cache in Google Chrome:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open Chrome.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Press <strong>Ctrl + Shift + Delete<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>Time range<\/strong>, select <strong>All time<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cookies and other site data<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cached images and files<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Clear data<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Close the browser.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open Gmail again and test switching the signature.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tip<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If preferred, the client can also clear only Gmail site data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Test in another browser<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the error continues, test in another browser. If you are using Google Chrome, try, for example: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Microsoft Edge<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mozilla Firefox<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Opera<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If it works in another browser, this reinforces that the problem is related to the local environment of the previous browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Remove all signatures saved in Gmail<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the problem persists, we recommend removing all existing signatures in Gmail settings and then testing again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This helps eliminate <strong>remnants of old signatures<\/strong> that may be interfering when Gmail switches signatures between aliases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"623\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bybrand.io\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/no_signature-1024x623.png\" alt=\"Remove all signatures saved in Gmail.\" class=\"wp-image-7833\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bybrand.io\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/no_signature-1024x623.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.bybrand.io\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/no_signature-300x183.png 300w, https:\/\/www.bybrand.io\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/no_signature-768x467.png 768w, https:\/\/www.bybrand.io\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/no_signature-50x30.png 50w, https:\/\/www.bybrand.io\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/no_signature-60x37.png 60w, https:\/\/www.bybrand.io\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/no_signature-100x61.png 100w, https:\/\/www.bybrand.io\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/no_signature.png 1293w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How to remove all signatures from Gmail<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open <strong>Gmail<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the <strong>gear<\/strong> icon in the upper right corner.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>See all settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>General<\/strong> tab, locate the <strong>Signature<\/strong> section.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If there are registered signatures:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>select each one;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>click the <strong>trash<\/strong> icon or remove manually;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>delete all existing signatures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The goal is to leave the section as in the image below, with &#8220;No signatures.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll to the bottom of the page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Save changes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the client has aliases, it is important to remove all old signatures associated with the account before testing again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What to do after removing all signatures<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Confirm that no old signature is being inserted anymore. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After that, Bybrand can redeploy the email signature, or the client can continue using the current signature already applied.
